I'm going to upgrade to TBIRD 800 + AIW Radeon.
Will I be able to capture MPEG-2 Video in real-time? Has somebody tried to do this?
Any complaints about this combination (TBIRD+AIW Radeon)?
Thanks for the answers.

Well, on my P3-450 it almost could do it, so I would assume a TBird 800 could do it...

Thanks for the reply, sirfergy.
But I think that the ATI MPEG encoder is optimized for the Intel P3 SSE instructions, isn't it?
Does anybody know how does it perform on the Thunderbirds?

I could answer you fully in like one and a half month or so (that's when I expect to get my PCI version :) ) but about the realtime stuff. A definite "yes" to that one. Your processor should be able to do it easily, and you can even use time-shiftine realtime also without problems (as long as your disk is fast enough, wich it probably should I think unless it's old). For perfect time-shifting realtime they recommended a 700mhz processor if I remember correctly.

The thing about processor optimisations I can't answer though. It should have some optimasasions for the AMD processors (if thay were smart), but I can't really say for sure. The speeds may then vary a little in the worst case, but nothing to drastic (I hope). :)

GeorgeD is right. amd's cant capture in mpeg1 or 2. i have a duron 700 and it doesnt give you option of picking mpeg. i had a p3 500 before and it gave me the option of picking vcr1 and 2 and mpeg1 and 2.

hmm I dont think your comment is relevant why wouldnt you have the option to encode to mpeg format even without optimisation the amd is fast enough to do it in realtime.

I have send an email to ATI and have asked about the real-time MPEG on AMD TBIRDs. Let's see.
Anyone with AIW Radeon and an TBIRD? Can you capture MPEG video in real-time?

That would be dumb if ATI made it so only Intels can encode MPEG2. Their site doesn't say anything about Intel only or anything right? Well, I'll wait for your answer, but I am pretty sure Tbirds can do it too.
