Why do the AIW Radeons only have 32MB of RAM?

I have wondered about this for a while. It seems to me that of the cards on the consumer/retail market, this one would need more memory than anything else, because of all of the functions it has.

What is the reasoning behind 32 MB? I realize that most applications don't require even 32MB.

The extra video functions don't require any extra video memory at all, Its just there for the games. Price/benefit was the likely decision maker. The AIW cards carry a premium price over the rest of the ATI line because of the added features. At the time of its release, even 6ns memory was very expensive, and the extra 32MB offered little performance gain over the 64 VIVO.
