AIW Radeon Problem...Please Help!

Hi, I have an All In Wonder Radeon that does not function at all. I plug it in, and nothing comes up on the screen when I power it up. I looked at the card, and it seems like a capacitor is missing. Has anybody had this problem? Is there any way I can fix it? Is it possible to solder a capacitor back on? How do I determine what type of capacitor it was? I would just give it in for warranty, but it's an engineering sample, so it's not possible. Any help would be appreciated.

what makes you think a cap is missing?

Without the same revision of card or a print you are more than likely hosed.

I bought the card of somebody on AT, and when I got the card, there was a capacitor in the anti-static bag with the card. I plugged in the card, and it didn't work. So yeah, I never had it working. I can't seem to find the capacitor though. If I do manage to find it, is it possible to solder it back on? I have pics of the card, and I circled where I think the capacitor is missing, but I don't know how I can post the pics.

I'm sure you could rattle off your board's revision number and somebody else could come along and read off the missing capacitor's specs. As for soldering it back on... as long as the board wasn't damaged when you plugged it in, and your soldering skills are decent, and nothing else was wrong with it to begin with, there's a good chance it's salvagable. It wasn't a video card but I picked up a 14.4k modem and soldered back on one of the caps, and until I got a 56k, it worked well.

I hope they're good enough.
There doesn't seem to be any other damage, so I'm hoping that it can be fixed. Where do I find the boards revision number?

if you bought it off the fs forums here, it looks like either they screwed you or shipping was bad. My suggestion would be to get your money back

Well, he didn't screw me over, so I'm thinking shipping was bad. He's willing to give me some sort of refund, but I just wanted to try and see if it could be salvaged.

depends how good you are with a soldering gun.... Unless those cards are multilayered. But, why not try it? its a door stop right now aint it?

yeah, I have no problem soldering it...just gotta figure out what type of capacitor or whatever needs to go there.

yeah, but unfortunately I misplaced the capacitor (stupid me)....it's in my room somewhere, but if I can't manage to find it, I was wondering if it's possible to find out what exactly goes in the missing spot, and get a replacement.

Id wish you luck on that one... Tech support would have no idea about something like that, and diagrams and schematics are probably all trade secret kinda stuff. The plant is probably over in asia somewhere so you're essentially screwed. The only hope you have (I think) is to find someone else with the same card and compare it to yours, and then find the capacitor (or whatever missing part) and then record the numbers off it and get another one that way.
