KK266R, w98se, 0307 Bios, 4n1 4.31, ATI 7075 installed alone, then MMC7.1, then
DVD 4.1. ATI from ATI web after tried orig on install cd. On both the orig. install, then reformat & clean install, I got an error window saying....
Error installing ikernal.exe 0x1200.... Everything seems to work, but if anything ATI ( particularly Launchpad) in MSCONFIG startup is enabled, then on
reboot, After my desktop comes up, but before Launchpad shows, I get an error
stating detected an error accessing the registry, Windows will restart & fix
this for you. This cycle happens anywhere from 3 to 12 times. After it finally
comes up clean, I can reboot multiple times OK. However, if I change to a cold
boot , same problem again.
MS KB says could be memory problem. I've enabled long POST & run every registry
cleaner I could find.Boot to DOS & run scanreg, no problems found. Followed
ATI support e-mail on removing everything & editing the reg. Then reinstalled
with the dwnloaded ATI files. Using MS KB suggestion, I ran scanreg /fix then
scanreg /opt. Can now boot clean in any way with everything in MSCONFIG enabled
EXCEPT Launchpad or ATIPTA or ATIPOLAB.
By the way, DX 8.0a & DV updates & all other w98se updates installed.

Can someone bail out a NEWBIE?
Thanks

AV turned off as well as everything else in MSCONFIG startup except Launchpad. At one
point I even had win & sys.ini turned off. Have one 256m stick of mem. In MSCONFIG
advanced turned it down to 64m. As I mentioned, I also turned off fast POST. I have
pc150 mem. I'm not OC & have it set to cl3 w/o interleaving.

When I first built this sys 2 weeks ago, (my 1st), one of the 1st things was to create a hidden copy of C:. Last week I booted this up & copied it back to primary C:.
Rebooted & still same prob. I figure I've cold booted & restarted at least 1500 times
tracking it down strictly to Launchpad. Actually, if I can remember, APTIVAXX is
what I see in C-A-D.

I tend to agree, if it's only launchpad that it's affecting, just forget it. I just can't see where the problem can be.
