AIW Radeon Audio?

I'm looking at getting an all-in-wonder radeon 8500 basically for the integrated tv tuner (no more pci slots for standalone). However, I'm wondering how its onboard sound works? I'm using the s/pdif optical port on my audigy to connect my stereo, and I don't want to have to switch the cable to the radeon's port every time I want to watch a DVD. Is there some way to disable the radeon's sound output? Or is that not necessary? Please advise.

While I'm at it, is the extra $70 for an AIW Radeon 8500 (non-DV; 128 MB) justified by increased performance? Or is it pointless?

The 'onboard audio' is a line out connector to the input of your local sound card. This is required to get sound out of the tuner.
