2 weeks ago, I got an 9800pro and a 9800 AIW, since they were both on sale. Today, since my 14days decision period was up, I returned the 9800pro and kept the AIW. The checkout guy was telling me about his problems with the capture software. I didnt have time to ask him more questions, but was wanting to know what the problems are and are there solutions? Did I make an error with my selection?

Thanks

I have an AIW 8500DV and am very happy with it. I did however have a problem with the video capture feature at one time, but was able to fix it. It occurs (or did for me) when I uninstalled MMC to upgrade to a new version. After the upgrade, the capture feature wouldn't work. After trying many things, asking for help on the forums and ATI's help center I finally stumbled onto the solution myself. It has to do with file permission settings in XP. When you run the TV app, a hidden folder is created in your "ATI MMC" directory that will be named the same as the XP account you are currently in. So if you have 5 different accounts in XP and run TV in each of those accounts, You will have 5 hidden folders. When you uninstall MMC those folders are not deleted. Then when you install the newer version of MMC and run TV, the capture feature doesn't work because (I am just assuming here) it sees the correct folders, but cannot use them because of the file permission settings on the folders. So all you have to do is delete the folders (just the hidden ones) so MMC will create it's own. After I figured this out I contacted ATI about it, and never heard back... :|

I wouldn't think so. Just install the driver and ATI software per the installation notes, and make sure you install the supporting software that's required and you should be fine. You probably should download the newest versions from ATI.com prior to the installation.
