AIW 9800Pro and dishnetwork satellite

Just wondering if this card can be used with a dishnetwork system? Can or should it be hooked up directly off the satellite or does it have to be hooked up through a receiver? Seems to me that if it has to go through the receiver, you wouldn't be able to change the channels except through the receiver itself. I'm just not sure if it would work directly off the satellite or not. I'm expecting my card sometime next week and just wanted to run all my wiring before it got here. Thanks for any suggestions.
 
It will have to be run through the receiver. You can't splice the signal before the receiver, but you can splice the output so that you can have it running to both the tv and to your card (this worked with direct tv, I don't see why dishnetwork would be any different.)

yeah, that's what I figured..just want confirmation. I should get the card probably Thursday. Now, just gotta run some cable. Thanks brian.

I have the same setup, (9700 AIW) and run the S-Video cable instead since you can't change channel through the card. You will have much better video output from the DN receiver. I would even run the composite video feed to the AIW before the RF signal. The one drawback in doing this instead of the RF cable is you'll have to run sound wires as well. In my case, (75ft distance cable run) the better video quality was worth it.

I hope your DN receiver has a UHF remote. 😉

Part of what he is saying is that you cannot control what you watch on your pc thru the pc itself. You have to change the channels on the dish rcvr. What ever is on your tv will be on your pc. So he recommend using the s-video from the rcvr to your AIW to get a better pic quality.

okay, I got that but I didn't understand the part about running the compostite video feed to the AIW before the RF signal and then having to run sound wires. This is not what I'm understanding. BTW, I'm having to run an s-video cable through the wall from my sons room so it's only going to be about 6 feet or so. I understand that whatever is on his tv will also be on my pc. Just wasn't sure bout the comp video feed before the RF signal part.
 
okay, I think it's clear now. I should use the s-video before the coax and comp video because of the better picture quality. I will also have to run the red/white audio cables for sound. Does this sum it up? I really apprecite this guys. I just checked newegg and my card is shipping today. SHould have it by Thursday. I'm so excited!!!🙂

I have a Radeon 9800 AIW, and have been thinking about hooking my DN receiver up to it as well. Will GuidePlus be able to function with the sat. connected? Is there a way I can still use it to get an accurate TV guide for my satellite stations, and thus record shows?
