Airport Wi-Fi Rules.

How come Orlando is free, while Ohare is $30 a month? do people really fly enough to pay $30 a month for wifi that only works in airports?

I am traveling for business. And there is no way it is worth 50 cents a minute.

Agreed, O'Hare sucks when it comes to airport Wi-Fi, as does Newark Liberty.

Tampa International FTW, airport-wide free internet 😀.

O'Hare sucks. Period. I avoid it like the plague. You can find plenty of fake wi-fi signals there too. Never had one single pleasant flight in or out of ORD

Given the usual delays at ORD, I'm sure $30/month will end up being better than $.50 / minute.

Meh, depends.

I've had good luck flying United between ORD and LGA. Much better than flying ATA from Midway to LGA.

I hate how much of a ripoff airport wifi is. Sky Harbor has it free. My dinky ATW (Appleton, Wisconsin) charges for it. I'm pretty sure one node could cover the airport (there are about 5 gates).

And yeah, OHare sucks. Out of my last ~15 fligts between there and Appleton, probably 13 have been delayed. I generally sit down at the resteraunt there (TGI Fridays or whatever it is).

At least Ohare is slightly better than Midway.

It is if your company is paying for it.

They charge at Norfolk, too, I found out, but then if you try near the information desk on the first floor, it's free. I think it's the USO upstairs that has it for free, but it's not advertised anywhere.

Oh, yeah, and O'Hare sucks. 🙂

I don't know what 'company' you work for mugs...

I won't bill out Houston's non free inet...

If I positively had to do business on a longer layover then possibily.

You raping a company you work for will eventually show up on your review...if you are senior management you have more leniancy.

My company would pay for it with no problems... even encourage it. It really depends on what you do alkemyst 🙂

I'm not sure why you put 'company' in quotes... I do in fact work for a 'company', or 'corporation' if you will. So far every time I've travelled my manager has travelled with me, so I could get his permission before doing it... but I really don't think my company would care if I paid $30 to use an airport's wifi, even if I just checked my e-mail to make sure nothing is blowing up at the office. If they spend $1000+ to send me somewhere they're not going to nickel and dime me on airport wifi. My happiness is in their best interest.

that's one of the only good things about flying through phoenix. only the discount carriers really utilize that airport (america west and southwest). i took a united flight once and they stuck me in this really nasty old terminal with no food.

if you have yahoo sbc dsl, you can add freedomlink to your account for $2 a month. if you have freedomlink, you can connect to denver int'l airport. totally worth it if you use it even once. plus you can use freedomlink @ mcdonalds, borders, and anywhere else they offer wifi.

tip for travelers ... if you fly in a terminal with a continental president's club lounge, you can park your butt outside and use the wireless. the continental terminal in houston has a lounge such as this. works in LAX too.

What company do you work for?

I've never worked for a company where they were concerned about my happiness... just their bottom line.

Sometimes they would be concerned about the customers...but not the ones paying for our services.

Oh...and O'Hare does suck. I've never departed from there on time, no matter what airline, time of day, or destination.

My company would as well, but I am assuming one is on a 15min trip or so to catch their next plane...if I was waiting over an hour then sure.

We are a fortune 400, those that travel have blackberries. If you need to get email you have it. If there is a personal need you must fill then it's ok as well...however; too many ppl raping the company on expenses and you can easily chart those.

We used to get 5 sick occurances per year with each being up to 7 days paid. However; that too went by the wayside as you had a handfill always taking an extra month off a year.
