Hello everyone,

I was using the AC66U as my main router (Great for me) but I just got the new time capsule to be able to backup my macs (Great too, about the same range)

I would like to use the AC66U to extend the range of the Airport, this one is located in my office on one extreme of the house and the signal is poor in my driveway and the opposite side of the backyard. I wanted to set up the AC66U on the other extreme of the house to repeat the signal but the most important is that I want to have only one network and not having to reconnect or change names. Basically I want to be able to go anywhere in my property and surroundings (Drive walk, side walk) and not losing signal or having weak signal or having to reconnect to a different Network

I was able to connect the ac66u to the apple with ethernet cable and select the option for access point and I was able to connect to the internet trough this Asus router but i had to input the name and pass manually (The old ssid that was already in that router)

can I use the same SSID and password on both routers? will I achieve what I want by doing this?

Yes you can use the same SSID and password.

Put one Router on Wireless Ch-1 and the other on Ch-11.

Thank you for your replay.

I configured both equipments with the dames SSID and password

(AC-N 2.4 and AC-N 5.0 those are the names)

After I did this I can no longer access the set up menu of the access router by typing the ip on the browser it keeps loading forever

I have connected both routers to each other pan to pan port but at the apple's website they were saying to connect the pan port of the base station to the WAN port of the access point

Any advice? I can't access the asus router set up, I can if I reset the asus to factory settings but after selecting the same SSID I lose access

Also for the channels I can select in the airport menu channel 1 for the 2.4 but for the 5.0 I can select 36, 40, 44, 48.... but not 1

I always connect with the 5.0 with most electronics (If they are compatible)

I'v being looking on Google all night and found some advice on how to setting up the Asus router as an Access Point, but I can't find anything about keeping the same SSID and being able to access the router set up and have both routers broadcasting exactly the same 5.0 AC signal

I'm geting nuts

36 is the lowest 5ghz channel. Set one to that, the other to 44/48.

Thank you for your replay, I was able to set up these channels on the Apple router, but I can no longer access the Asus router menu, after setting it up as an AP with the same SSID i lose access trough 192.168.0.1 if I reset the router to factory settings then I can access it, but as soon as I configure it to AP with the same SSID I can't go in any more

If/before you set it as an AP, you need to give it a static IP address that's on the same subnet as the main (Apple) router but outside the router's DHCP range. So check the Apple's DHCP configuration first -- I think it uses 10.0.1.* by default -- to note what numbers for the last digit (0-255) *aren't* assigned or taken by the Apple router itself, then give one of those to the Asus as its static address. Assign the Apple router address as the gateway.

I'm trying to look for all this info you gave me, I don't know what each of them is or do but here is what I found:

Insidie the Airpot Utility:

Under the Network tab:
DHCP Range: 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200

Under the internet tab:

IPv4 Address: 71.57.13.96
Subnet Mask: 255.255.254.0
Router Address: 71.57.12.1
DNS Servers: 75.75.75.75 and .76

and then LAN IP Address: 10.0.1.1

Now I'm in the Lan IP settings on the Asus router

And I have the following options:

IP Address: Ill input 10.0.1.201
Subnet mask: it shows 255.255.255.0 is that ok?
Then default gateway: You said the apples router ip so it would be 10.0.1.1?

I'm a little bit lost!

I got the router locked up again, for some reason the only way to be able to access the set up again is if I restore the firmware

Are you doing all of these configuration "Games" through Wireless?

If you do, switch to the Right way to do it Via Wired connection.

I'm doing everything wired, the Apple Time Capsule is Wireless with the Mac and it seems to be properly configured and working fine.

But the problem is with the Asus RT-AC66U which is wired to a PC when trying to set up. If I start from 0 flashing the Asus, this is what I do exactly:

1: Plug the router in to my PC with ethernet
2: Acces the control panel by going to 192.168.1.1
3: the Set Up wizzar pops up, I click manual config
4: 3 options are shown: Router, Ap and Bridge (I select AP)
5: screen asking to select IP manually or automatic
6: SSID Selector

I did it both ways, with automatic IP and then with the suggestions hat ss4 gave me and after completing it I can't access the router again

I'm not sure if I'm doing it right

Las night I was googling all night but with not much success
I'm now considering buying an extra Airport extreme to replace the Asus so I can get Apple Support to do it for me, but I like this Asus Router
