We've been hearing so much about the problems of airports being overloaded, flight delays, etc, and they say it will only continue to get worse....

Why is this happening????

Airports know how many runways they have, they know how many planes they have, they know how many people can fit on the planes, they know how long it takes them to board and takeoff... They should be able to calculate the average number of planes they can handle per hour...

What the hell is the prob !?!?!?!?!?!

uhm.. they're in the business to make money? Seriously tho... you work for a big store.. know you're gonna get in 10 PS2s on opening day.. so you only sell 10?? hell no.. you sell 10,000 and hope you get some cancellations or more shipment...

airlines are the same way.. they purposely overbook flights hoping someone wont show.

So in otherwords, these problems are inherent with the business and can never be solved...

If they built more airports, runways, planes, etc., they would still make sure they were stuffed to max capacity?

yup! you got it..

ever try dialing a phone number to hear "all circuits are busy" ? why? cuz they oversold the phone lines and don't have enough paths...

all businesses try to make money with the least resources..

Ever walk into a store? 200 customers.. 3 salesclerks? why not 200 clerks.. 1 per person?

cuz it's not practical.

Airlines should have a responsibility to provide comfortable, dependable service. To address this issue, something has to bend.

How about making all ticket sales final... No refunds, no switching flights... Then there is no reason to overbook. Yes, it would definitely be tough on the consumer, but wouldn't it be worth it if you could buy a ticket and know that most likely you will be on time and have a smooth flight. Is this all we have to do to alleviate 75% of the congestion?

It's in the news because they will need federal funding. We have out-of-date equipment at most airports. Remember who really controls the money at airports....Politicians! Much of the money goes to political payback. Just check the connections between ANY taxi service licensed to do business with ANY airport and the local Mayor. That's just a start! If it's run by the government you will never be able to supply enough money to satisfy them!

Much of the money is wasted and competition is stifled with an unbelievable amount of government regulation.

It is not the Airline's fault although the service needs drastically improved. It's not the Consumer's fault. It is the continual bickering between interested parties that prevent proper airport expansion.

That is the problem.
