Airport Extreme problem - cannot connect with Linksys USB adapter

Hello,

I actually posted in an old thread how my roommate couldn't connect to our Linksys router with his new Macbook Pro.

His birthday came along so I bought him the Airport Express - He has no problem creating a wireless connection with his Macbook! But...

I cannot connect to the Airport Express with my Linksys wireless USB adapter. I am locked into the linksys software (can't use the windows zero g service or whatever its called, it can't see the adapter). The software sees the airport express, but it can't obtain an IP address.

Can anyone help me and tell me what values to use for a manual connection that doesn't use DHCP? I have access to the Airport Express values:

(Right now the airport express is in DHCP mode - do I need to change this? If so, to what?)

IP: 208.120.253.183
subnet: 255.255.255.0
router: 208.120.253.1
DNS: 207.69.188.185
DNS2: 207.69.188.186
domain: earthlink.net

I need to fill in the following values:
IP:
subnet:
default gateway:
dns:
dns2:

Yes I tried the obvious solution of IP to IP, subnet to subnet, router to DG, and DNS to DNS. It didn't work.

Please help! =(

Are you sure your adapater supports the same encryption protocol that the router is serving up? If not it's likely you'll see the network but then completely fail trying to actually connect.

I have used my adapter with 128 bit WEP on a linksys router with no problem - and my roommate is currently using his Mac on the Airport Express with 128 bit WEP with no problem - I am pulling my hairs out!!

turn off encryption, and see if it works, then layer the encryption up to an acceptable level (WPA2 is the best, WPA is good, WEP is not so hot)

Problem solved - simple solution - I am an idiot.

The passphrase you set for the Airport Express only works on Apple computers. In order to enter the WEP passphrase on a non-Mac (my Linksys USB wireless G adapter, on my dell, for instance) - you need to do the following:

Use the airport express admin utility.
Select your network.
Click the password icon that is in the top row - it gives you the hex value you need to use for non-macs that are connecting.

Voila!
