Airport Extreme 2.4/5

Just got a new Time Capsule...

iMac is connected by wire, and mid-2009 MacBook Pro on 2.4GHz.

When the new MacBook Air connects via 5GHz, it can't see the iMac/MBP. It can ping them, but can't see Home Share in iTunes and can't see them in the Finder. Is this normal? Are 2.4/5GHz 'separate' networks somehow?

select the option that names your 5ghz separately - you want that. if they login to the guest network that should isolate them.

i'm not really impressed by the router. i'd say its lower quality than the $89 refurb e4200 or maybe equal to the trendnet 900 (450/450) - but they gimped 450 on 2.4 with the time capsule. the only nice thing is the amount of ram is 256meg which is alot for a router. But i am using it as an AP so thats kinda moot.

very old technology cpu wise - like a WRT600N but they bumped the 5ghz modem up.

transfer rate is very poor for the pc's. okay (22.5MB/s) from osx machines. more like 15MB/s which sucks for 450 connect. my buffalo airstation does 16.5MB/s @ 300 link speed - i'm curious if i'd get 25-28MB/s with the trendnet 900(450/450).

really expensive device. weighs a ton!
