So my router does this annoying and nasty bit where once a while it'd drop the WAN connection after a large sustained transfer...I believe that the issue resides with the router because when I plug my computer directly into the wall (hardwired to a shared T3 in dorm) I would never experience this problem.

But since I have mostly laptops and a spared wireless card, I don't think I have a need to shell out for the Extreme when the Express looks like it can do the job for half the price.

So does anyone have one or some hands-on experience with those? Also do these Airports support PPPoE (for when I move out and switch to DSL)?

I have one and it works well, but I don't use it as my main router. I love Airtunes.

IIRC they support PPPoE.

I have one too. I had a dlink router that worked great until a roommate discovered azerus and after that it needed to be restarted everyday. I moved out and bought the airport express. So far, it is the most reliable router i have had, going on 1.5 years. Airtunes works great.

It does have moments where it needs a restart, but it has not been often.

I have one as well, I use it for AirTunes plus as a travel router. Be sure to check out AirFoil:

It's great if you just need a small WAP - plug it into your Ethernet connection and voila, wired turns into wireless!
