crosswind landing. Put the nose into the wind. If you don't do this you will actually end up next to the runway

I had a few flights like that into Cleveland, OH of all places. On one, I swear we were almost perpendicular to the runway. He hovered above the runway for at least 10 seconds or more before missing the landing and trying again.
I actually go to the point where I liked them, because people would always start freaking out. It's sad, but that's the little enjoyment you sometimes get when you fly too much.

The first time I experienced it was at Hong Kong's old Kai Tak. I was young and it seemed like a lot of fun to me. Not so much for the people around me.
You are wrong. They were not drying their clothes in the sun. They were using the jet blastOriginally posted by: Kaieye

I still remember folks drying their clothes in the sun as we sped past their roof's approaching the landing area at Kai Tak. Anyways, I had a great time in HK last week...

PS - wish I could find the "Air Fence" photo of Air France's 747 dragging the fence after a slightly too low approach.

Pretty coolI've landed in a plane that hit some wind like that the plane jerked, really rough landing, I thought I was going to die. Pilot over the radio said "heh just a little bit of wind folks, nothing to worry about." Nothing to worry about my ass.

It's called a touch-n-go. They do it when redoing the landing is safer than the current landing arrangement.
