Outpost has a deal on an Airlink superG router for 25 bucks that has been circulating around anandtech. Doing a search on airlink here, though, brings up surpisingly few results. Someone said that it is a clone of Dlink, but I don't know the veracity of that claim. Could someone give me some info on their quality?

What's so bad about it? Even Kias run. The cool thing about this deal is the absence of rebates.

I thought that deal was a steal. Until I tryed using the equipment. If you try WPA it will randomly hang every 30-60 mins. If you use wep it hangs once a day. I am running no encryption and it drops out once a week. You get what you pay for I guess lol.

There are Entry Level Network hardware companies that compete all over the world by selling inexpensive hardware. Network hardware is two to four times more expensive around the world the it is in the USA, thus provide a margin to compete on price.

In the USA prices are so low that the margin to compete on price is very limited, and since marketing cost in the USA is very High the ?inexpensives? can not really penetrate the market. Here and there you might find some of these hardware that was shipped to the US as a ?Naïve attempt?, by mistake, or by a supplier that bought it by pound in an auction, and thus can make few bucks even if it sold ?extra cheap?. I usually shy away from this things, yeah you save few $$$ (and it really only few) but in most cases there is no real support or follow up.

afaik there's two type of airlink router sold on outpost, first is the 54 g (AR315W), this router is bad, stay away from it unless you are trying to play with it, some said the problem might be caused by overheating. The second is the atheros super g 108 mbps (ar410w) version, this router is said to be the oem version of dlink DL-624 (also super g version) because of similarities from led position, antenna, and also webadmin interfaces, but also with some features added, some features removed.

Unfortunately many DL-624 seems to have problems with the router keeps rebooting, probably because channel interference, some users also report the lan switch will go wear out after usage, there's some people claim after months, the switch would not recognize the lan except the lan card is set to half duplex 10 mbps, i don't now whether this is the same for airlink router. Try looking dslreports.com for some review from the owner there, both for dlink dl-624 and airlink router.
