Airline Tickets

So about 2 weeks ago I was looking at prices to fly to holland out of minneapolis and back at orbitz.com. Their were a whole bunch of tickets priced at $590 from northwest airlines. Now i look back ready to buy some tickets, and everything is at least $1100. Did gas prices manage to do that or is something else going on.

Do airline prices vary day by day vary much on these websites? What are the best websites to use to find cheap tickets, when I was checking 2 weeks ago I believe orbitz was easily the cheapest now they're quite expensive.

Ticket prices vary based on the time until departure, seats available, and probably many other factors. I have no clue to be honest exactly how they figure out ticket prices but it can be rough planning ahead on ticket prices.

Yeah, I looked ahead to se if I planned it later and prices were still the same though. At this point it seems worthwhile to wait it out to see if they drop at all.

Anyone know how the priceline name your price thing works?

that is normal for summer travel to europe

summer is when everone wants to go, so demand goes up, so prices go up

it is cheaper to fly to europe in winter

There are fare buckets. Yours most likely got sold out, so now you are buying a higher fare ticket. Only good news it might have less restrictions.

Its summertime almost... hence more traveling. Coupled with higher gas prices, ticket prices go up.
Supply and demand

Peak season,
off-season,
seat availability/capacity,
etc.
