Jet sounds like circular saw (or Swiftech MC462 :) )

Prop sounds like a continuous fart and takes 2 1/2 times longer to get there.

Cheers!

It's definitely differnet.

First of all - no inflight movies ;)

I have found the flight to be a little rougher at times, and landings too. I think it was also a little louder, but I haven't been in one for a long time, so I may just be imagining things.

I think I get to go on a little commuter type plane on Saturday, but I'm not sure. Guess I'll let myself be surprised ;)

non jet's are usually smaller planes.. and if they hit turbulence..it's alot worse than on one of the bigger jets..

It's a lot louder and easier to bump, but they are usually used for shorter trips.

I flew in one and it's definitely an experience. To have a conversation with the person next to you, you really need to talk above a normal loudness. And the plane dips more than you think it should, but it gets you there. :)

They're not as bad as some make them out to be. For a 60-90 minute flight, they're fine. They are slower, noisy, and more turbulent, but you do arrive at your destination.

One difference is you actually get down on the ground/tarmac and walk up the stairs to the plane. Not the usual method they use for jets.

The one thing I remember--from my first trip--was the landing. We musta done the max angle approach you can do getting to that one airport. I felt my stomach in my throat for a good 5-10minutes we were landing. (FORTUNTELY - That's NOT the norm, btw, just that one flight). I was eyeing the barfbag though--onlytime I've ever had to think to do that during a flight.

The POSITIVE I can say is that there was more leg and elbow room.

Overall, The flights were ok. I couldn't complain. I hate to trust anything to the airline industry where they are always trying to cut costs... your life is in the hands of the lowest bidder.

OTOH, "it's the safest form of travel" they tell us. You take your chances I guess...

I had the "opertunity" to fly from Gitmo Cuba to Porto Rico in a C47 (aka DC3) long slow and noisy, but I have flown in a DC3 one of the truly historic planes.

Also flew from Plama Spain to Cadiz Spain in a C130, noiser but faster, no seats just a webed bench along side the cargo. I was getting out and this was the first leg of the journey home, they could have strapped me to the wing, it wouldn't have mattered.

I once flew in a prop plane that held about 40 people. The HUGE wheels tucked under the wings at the end. I happened to be sitting by the wing and the wings shook like they were going to break during take off and landing. Otherwise it was great.

Prop plane rocks!
If it's for a short distance, it's fine. Best point is the acceleration during the start :D
No Jetplane accelerates the way a Fokker50 did on a trip once *being pressed into the seat, grinning*

I flown in a Saab 340 several times,it aint that bad. Think of it as a long roller coaster ride, just kidding. Hey it could be worst, you could be flying one of these that have only 18 seats and you have no flight attendant. You'll have a flight attendant with the Saab but dont be surprised if they ask you to move around if the plane isn't full for better weight distribution....You'll be fine though

They're not bad for short flights. I've flown Skyways (Midwest Express commuter division) Beachcraft 1900's many times. No problems. Definitely not as nice as larger jets, but certainly tolerable.

Bad is flying in a UH-60A (Army Blackhawk helicoptor) from Clarksville, TN to Atlanta, GA. :)

It depends on the aircraft:

As far as commuters go, I've only flown on one once. About three years ago I had the pleasure of flying on a brand new Dornier Do-328. The Do-328 is one of the most advanced commuters out there, it's only real rival is the much larger Saab 2000. It is very fast (w/ a tailwind we were cruising at 405mph), quiet, and overall quite comfortable. Even though I had one of the engines less than 6 feet from me, I had no trouble sleeping and we had no problems with turbulence. I honestly would not mind flying on one of these planes again.

Then again, I have flown on several private aircraft (cessnas, pipers, etc) and they have much to be desired. So, once again, it all depends on the aircraft. Try not to worry to much though.:)
