I'm flying out in a couple days with some camping gear. It won't fit in any of my suitcases but I do have a rather large duffel bag. If the bag is stuffed completely full, it will exceed the limit 62 linear inches. However, it won't be completely full and when compressed will easily be less than 62 linear inches. Will I be okay, or should I try to find something smaller to pack in?

If you're car camping what about using a cooler? That's how we do it. Just use a luggage strap to keep it closed.

I don't have a large cooler that'll fit everything. It's basically a huge car camping tent, sleeping bag, and a sleeping pad. I might be able to fit it in my backpacking backpack, but then I'd have to buy a cover for it and I'd still be worried about damage.

If you can squash it down past the size limit you'll be fine. I've flown with duffel bags full of clothes before that was huge but could be squashed down to be underneath the size limits. They never gave me a problem.
