Airline Deregulation - A success

Deregulation has been a success in many industries. One of the first tests was the airline industry, where liberal Democratic senator Edward Kennedy lead the fight against airline regulation. The results? Lower prices and more airline travel.

Republican fanbois should remember this when they take a cheap flight. While they're add it they can note that Bush hasn't turned down any spending bills.

At least get your quip right... a broken clock is what you're looking for.

Kennedy gave the reasons for deregulation and was proven right. It's a good thing naysayers like you couldn't stop him.

I thought airlines are still struggling? it doesn't look like a success for them. cept maybe SouthWest and JetBlue

You have to distinguish between a healthy market and healthy companies. There are now fewer airlines and the airlines have tighter profit margins. Many went out of business. This was good for consumers. Industry (airlines) was actually for continued regulation because it ensured their safe profits and lack of competition. But someone who didn't cow-tow to their interests came in and deregulated, which created more airline jobs in the end and lower fares.

Corrected. Stopped was what I was thinking, but didn't type. While we're correcting errors, you ever go back and fix your incorrect assumption that PM was a female? Didn't think so...

Anyhow, back on topic...I googled up a funny...

The other amusing footnote is that, at the hearing itself, when Senator Kennedy started to quibble with some of my answers to the questions that his counsel had prepared for him to ask, his counsel poked Senator Kennedy in the ribs and said in audible whispers:

"That?s the right answer, Senator. Ask the next question."

I'll remember to give ole swimmer a nod next time I fly. So what's he done right in the PAST 26 years?
