I'm going to Florida this March. I'm flying From Philadelphia to Fort Myers.

For the past few days I've been trying to compare fares and get the best deal. After much searching and frustration, I have to admit that I am totally and completely perplexed. Let's take a look at a few things that lead to my confusion:

- Two days ago, Hotwire had the best roundtrip fare at $200. Today, it's $278.
- On the AirTran Website, a flight is listed at $248. On Travelocity, the SAME EXACT flight is $185.
- Also, the airline websites have the most expensive fares... I thought it was supposed to be cheaper?

Can someone PLEASE advise me here and help me make sense from this.

Whats the big deal? All those places are reputable - the cheapest price is the cheapest price . . . ?

Sometimes the airline's websites will be cheaper...other times not.
Just do your shopping...

Cheapair worked pretty well for me.

There's the few typical tricks that seem to work. Fly on a Wednesday whenever possible. Check for a flight the day before you want to leave, it might leave at like 11:50 PM so you'll still arrive the day you wanted to, and the red eye flights are usually cheaper. Etc.

Airfares can change at any moment so don't expect to shop for a long time thinking you can always go back to the cheapest one you saw yesterday, or even an hour ago.

Some sites will offer lower prices to first-time visitors, so delete your cookies and see if that helps. That's more common on retailer sites, but who knows what the travel sites do.

Since you're leaving from Philadelphia, check nearby airports to see if the fares are lower from JFK, LGA, ABE, EWR or others if you would be willing to travel from there. Also check for different times of the day.
