Failing to see how it could be convenient is just a little ignorant, then.

It's fantastic for replying. I have nearly never cared to initiate a conversation via text on my computer.

It handles hangouts, facebook messenger, and telegram as well as texts. It's simply a matter of what you wanted wasn't offered by Pushbullet. That's fine.

It's no excuse to dump on Pushbullet, though. It is great at doing what it set out to do, which is mirror and allow you to action a notification from any device.

you only have like 10 seconds to catch the notification on your desktop right? with sms

could you take a screenshot of the facebook messenger/sms/hangouts all going at once? it seemed difficult to configure so I never really looked too hardly into it. I didn't see any exciting whiz-bang configurations on their site or pictures showing how pushbullet would clearly make my life better

And like I said, that's fine.

But you're dumping on a service simply because it doesn't serve your specific needs.

Pushbullet suits mine fantastically. Different strokes and all that.

The services don't all go at once. IT'S FOR REPLYING ONLY.

Pushbullet works fine but its clear that it's very limited. You need to catch the message when it comes in and once you reply the conversation window goes away. I'm not saying that it's a shitty service because of that, but we can't act like that's sufficient or a finished product.

The fundamental problem is that these services are all mirroring off of your phone, so every SMS that comes in triggers mightytext to upload that data to a server. What we really need is a service that distributes to your phone or whatever platform you're using. This is what Hangouts, GroupMe, etc. do. WhatsApp isn't there yet, but it would be nice to have someday.

And again, it's just because you want something different.

Why is the time limit such a bad thing? I'm on my laptop, I see a text come in. I will either reply or not. I'm not saying it's a great conversation client, I have never made such a claim.

Obviously you also want something more fully featured FOR CONVERSATIONS. AND AGAIN, THAT'S FINE. For me, replying to texts and hangouts from my computer without having to have another client installed is great. I primarily use Pushbullet for notification mirroring and actioning. Replying to texts is a nice benefit.

If you honestly want a fully featured client, use telegram. Tell your friends to suck it up and install the app. Or Whatsapp, or hangouts, or whatever else that isn't SMS/MMS. Even MightyText is just a band-aid.

ALL I'VE BEEN SAYING IS THAT DUMPING ON PUSHBULLET IS A LITTLE STUPID. It's a completely different service that happens to allow text and message replies. Pushbullet not suiting your messaging needs doesn't make it something to be dumped on, since that was never their main intention. It simply doesn't suit you.

I don't see why anyone would want something that requires immediate interaction. that defeats the whole point of texting

hm, what's the big deal? If you leave WiFi on (basically zero battery drain), I haven't had any issues with MightyText or WhatsApp.

IE, why does it matter if it's uploading to a server, and then getting to your browser?
