Now that I have a broken ankle and have to use the elevator at work (and take percocet for the pain :) ), it just dawned on me during my last trip to the 2nd floor.

Why does an elevator in a 2 story building have buttons to select floors? You are either on the first floor going up, or on the 2nd floor going down. No need to push a button.

Do not question. Just believe. Otherwise, "they" will come for you, and you will mysteriously...disappear.

because saying "I'm going to the first floor" is a lot more PC than saying "I'm going down"

That happened to a friend of mine.

Be careful, they can read you brain - unless you wrap your head in aluminium foil (like me).

Because they don't design a new individual elevator for each building that requires one. Chances are they make an elevator that can go in any building with 2, 10 or 50 floors....

I was just feeling loopy at the time of the OP, and wondering why I had to press "2" when there was no other floor to go to.... :p

Reminds me in Splinter Cell, the elevator has 4 options, the topmost, up one, down one, and the bottommost.

More than one answer.

a ) The elevator is universal, it's not customized for your building.
b ) There's a basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, roof choice.
c ) Why would there be an elevator in a two story building?

a) Yeah, I know, I was just making an observation
b) Nope, No basement ans no elevator access to the roof
c) We are a not-for-profit organization and must adhere to the People With Disabilities ACT

I've literally never been in the elevator until breaking my ankle and I've worked there 7 years :)

Why don't all buildings just have the up or down buttons? I wanna get to the ninth floor, just hit up nine times. Duh!

c ) Why would there be an elevator in a two story building? For the handicap of course which he is at the moment :)
