Now that I have a broken ankle and have to use the elevator at work (and take percocet for the pain ), it just dawned on me during my last trip to the 2nd floor.

Why does an elevator in a 2 story building have buttons to select floors? You are either on the first floor going up, or on the 2nd floor going down. No need to push a button.

because saying "I'm going to the first floor" is a lot more PC than saying "I'm going down"

Be careful, they can read you brain - unless you wrap your head in aluminium foil (like me).

Because they don't design a new individual elevator for each building that requires one. Chances are they make an elevator that can go in any building with 2, 10 or 50 floors....

I was just feeling loopy at the time of the OP, and wondering why I had to press "2" when there was no other floor to go to....

Reminds me in Splinter Cell, the elevator has 4 options, the topmost, up one, down one, and the bottommost.

a ) The elevator is universal, it's not customized for your building.
b ) There's a basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, roof choice.

I've literally never been in the elevator until breaking my ankle and I've worked there 7 years
