Airbag recall, anyone ever get new airbags?

Honda notified me years ago that they would be recalling my Fit to replace defective airbags and that I would be notified when the recall was in motion and I would be asked to schedule an appointment. Since that notice, I have heard not a peep out of Honda. Has anyone here had their airbags replaced under recall?

My wife had her 2000 BMW 323 airbag replaced a couple years ago under the Takata recall.

She just got another recall notice last week saying that the replacement airbag needs to be replaced. 😕

OP, did you schedule an appointment with the dealership? In Canada, I needed to setup an appointment with a local dealer so that they could order the right air bags and it was a quick job, with the old Takatas replaced with Autoliv airbags.

No, the letter I got was a preliminary notification of the recall, stating that a second letter would be forthcoming when Honda was ready to implement the replacements.

Yep, my Mazdaspeed6 (I'm fairly sure both primary airbags were replaced). My GX470 just had an airbag recall done as well, but I'm not sure what exactly was replaced.

Jlee, off topic but how did the AC in your GX handle summer in the valley? I'm floating the idea with the wife of getting one but seems like most Japanese cars have weak AC.

Checked at the dealership last week, they still said its at least 6 months before they come in for my '12 Fusion and '14 GT500.

I got my recall notice on my 2011 BMW 135i last March. Still no replacement airbag.

I can answer that for you as an AZ lifer. Great. Between myself, Jlee, and my parents, I've been in or owned a dozen Lexus's ranging from a '93 ES300 to '09 ES350's with GX's and IS's in the middle. Toyota/Lexus AC is amazing. I'd love to be able to replace the AC in my BMW with Lexus AC. Every non-Toyota I've been in has disappointing AC.

My 07 GX was awesome. It's not warm enough to tell with my 05 yet.

I have read somewhere that the early model year GX's had inadequate AC for unusually hot climates and it was fixed in later years (I want to say 2005+), but now I can't find a source for that.

I ran my VIN on Honda's website. Now they are telling me to set up an appointment so I guess Honda decided to not send out the promised second letter.

Yeah, I should probably go down to the dealer and complain. I know my coworker with an older M3 waited over a year before finally calling BMW NA and throwing a fit until they got it replaced.

Thanks guys. If we get one it'll probably be a lease return...so a '14 or '15. Of all the Japanese cars we've had the one with the best AC was my '91 Accord. R12 is good 🙂 We test drove an MDX a few years back in summer and the AC definitely left something to be desired. I think it was only in the low 90s that day.

We test drove one last year and it seemed fine. Really a nice vehicle. We both loved it.

I had the airbag replaced on my '09 Fit about two months ago, after receiving the second letter stating replacements were available. Of course, I ended up trading in that car for the new Civic hatchback about a month later.

I don't know if punching my VIN into the Honda website last week triggered something but I received the second letter notifying me that it is time to schedule an appointment.
