The head airbag takes only 0.1 seconds to inflate, completely covering the bicycle riders head and neck

It is the perfect invention for those of us too vain to bother wearing a helmet while riding our bikes.
The 'Hvvding' helmet is an airbag 'collar' that springs into action within 0.1 seconds, covering the skull and neck of a rider in the event of an impact.

Roughly translated into English as the 'Chieftain' - the Hvvding was designed over six years by two Swedish industrial design students.

The team developed a system using a collar containing a folded airbag which is only inflates when sensors inside detect a sudden jolt.
A small helium gas cylinder inflates the collar in just 0.1 seconds and it remains inflated for several seconds after impact. The device has been 'tuned' by recreating hundreds of accidents using crash test dummies and real riders.

She said: 'The airbag is designed as a hood that surrounds and protects the rider's head.

yeah if people don't want to wear helmets what makes them think they would wear this?

I pity the fool who wears this with a helmet :p
This.

The big question is does it work better than a helmet. I've gone down a couple of times, once splitting my helmet but saving my head. Broken collar bone and bruised hip joint though.

If you refuse to wear a helmet then you likely are going to get what's coming to you.

Yeah, cause everyone too vain to wear a helmet will want to wear a piece of shit that looks like that, even only if it's when inflated.

This reminds me of a torture they used in the dark ages. Apparently they would take a fresh cow hide and wrap a guys head in it. As the hide dried it crushed him to death.

There are reasons not to wear a helmet. It's heavy, it's hot, it puts pressure on your head and neck muscles. It's not much of a problem on short rides, but it is if you're riding for more than an hour. I'll wear a helmet if I'm biking on road or while mountain biking, but I will not wear one if I'm riding designated hiking/biking trails. This might be more comfortable than a full helmet so it might be useful for some.

Err, how is an air bag going to help? I've seen impacts that shattered high end bike helmets and still gave the wearer a considerable concussion. I don't see a bag of air offering the same protection.

Bullshit, a typical cycling helmets weighs less than 300grams...they most certainly are NOT heavy and they are full of ventilation holes. I've ridden centuries and worn a helmet the entire time (this is over 5 hours of riding) and never had issues with comfort because I was wearing a cycling helmet. I've also ridden in 100+ degree heat for more than an hour. The helmet didn't make much, if any, difference in my comfort.

I do occasional mountain biking, and I wouldn't think of not wearing a helmet.

I think an emergency inflatable nut protector for men's bicycles and motorcycles would sell a lot more.

Would not trust for mtn biking. Some of the drops alone would likely trigger it. I'll stick with a good helmet.

I'd rather just wear a helmet and not trust a piece of technology to save me.

Helmets still fail. Many drop them and think "it's still ok". Many leave them on their bike and someone else knocks them off and just puts it back up.
