Air Vs. Water

This is a comparison that seems to not be on anyone else's mind, yet its a huge deal for me. I am right at the line of high end air or low end water. The nicest hsfan that I've seen is the xp-120, and that comes at around 60 shipped. Thats a fair amount of money for a hsfan, but supposedly it performs really well, especially when lapped. I just really want a comparison between something like the xp-120 with some lower end water cooling systems.

I want to overclock pretty significantly when I build my machine, but budget is in mind.
Anyone have any suggestions, or if you have nice hsf or water cooling would you like to post your overclocking temp results?

Thanks.

the only difference between water and good air cooling is that the ambient room temp doesnt affect the temp very muhc at all.

water is better at getting to the extremes. silence = resorator and well theres overclocking goodness on the other end. not exactly cheap though.

yes, because water (or oily fluid) is much better at temp consistency. not all water coolers are silent. they still require fans to move the water and a motor is required to spin those fans. i've heard taht some are actually very audible, but i cant prove this base on personal experience. i still like water cooling, preferably the cooler master aquagate (doesnt use plain water).

well yes thats why i said at the two extremes. resorator isn't good for overclocking🙂 and cheap water cooling is loud and atleast to me doesn't justify its cost. serious overclockign uses big arrays of radiators with low rpm fans..costly.
