Anyone in a cold climate have any experience with these units? Cold climate meaning upstate NY area, or equivalent. I realize that in the winter we're not going to get much if any heat out of the unit, but from March - May, and Sept - Dec., I'm thinking that an ASHP could be a good supplement to our existing propane furnace. We currently do have central air, a forced hot air LP furnace, etc., so this would essentially be a drop in unit.

I'm may be closer to the climate PA, but I still think it may be worthwhile.

The heat pump can provide most heat when the temp is above 32, otherwise you'll be using LP.
I have an LP hot water boiler. I'd love to upgrade to a heat pump, those gas bills are a killer, but my AC is in the attic and I'd loose half the heat before it got inside.

And FYI, in my experience, ASHP are purely an economic decision, somewhat at the expense of comfort. As te temp approaches 32, the heat pump has to run in a defrost cycle---that's A/C mode so you get heat tht is no more than 75 degrees wih occasional bursts below 50...but the fuel savings can be pretty sweet, especially when gas prices are high.
