Air Rifle Scope Or Laser Sight?

Just purchased a Winchester Model 800X from Kmart for $88.00. It can be purchased from D&R Sports Center for only $61.00! Still gotta hash out that price difference with Kmart.

But anyway, it was purchased to take care of our little skunk problem here. I wanted a powerful gun that could shoot through it's skull quickly and cleanly, so he wouldn't be able to get off a "shot". ;) Well, while practicing and adjusting the sights, our little friend wandered right near the target area. My first shot at him was just over his head. I took three more hurried shots at him as he ambled off. At least one of them found the mark. Fortunately, he didn't spray much at all.

I'm now in the market for a scope or laser sight for this gun. Which will do the better job for his friends? I don't care about sportsmanship, target shooting or anything else. Just want the next few encounters to go off a little smoother and cleaner.

Thanks!

Scope.

My brother had a pellet gun with a scope, & now a .22. With the pellet gun he was dropping squirrels out of trees with a single shot in the head. Ripped out the back of their skull, first shot.

Get a scope, but not a high powered one. You're obviously going to be fairly close to the victim and a higher powered one would be too hard to use. You should only need 2x-4x magnification.

Thanks for the quick replies. I've already done my homework on air gun scopes. It's been pointed out on every sight that it MUST be made for an spring piston air gun, or it will be shocked to pieces from the recoil. I agree that 4X will be adequate. I've heard that cheaper variable scopes will also succumb to the recoil shock very quickly, so a fixed 3X or 4X will do. Also am aware that the larger number for he objective lens translates to more light and more dollars. I'm hoping to get a 4 X 32 for about $25.00 or so.

The reason I'm asking is because I haven't heard much about the lasers. Never used one and don't know anybody that has one. In theory, it seems pretty fool proof. Can you still use the peep sights when a laser is attached to the dovetail grooves?

Well, based on all the input so far, I'll be going with the scope.

BTW, I contacted a trapper before going through all this. He wanted $100.00 to set traps for a week. That would include trapping two skunks. Then I'd have to pay $15.00 for each carcass removal. Any additional skunks would be $30.00 each. Needless to say, this is a pretty good investment so far, and I don't mind putting a couple more dollars into a decent scope if you know of any better ones than Tasco. I've heard they are kind of so-so...

I know what he meant. I was saying, if scopes are so good, why would someone want a lazer pointer sight.

Obviously to point it into the skunk's eye and blind the mofo ;)

Might be a mistake, but I got a Daisy 3X-7X variable from Dick's Sporting goods for $30.00. The local sports shop had a 4 X 32 in two versions. One was $75.00 and the second was $99.00! That didn't include mounts, which would have been $50.00 more! Sheesh!

If the Daisy completely sucks, I'll return it and order a better one on-line. As it is, it doesn't miss! HUGE difference! The only drawback is that it's hard to release the safety with the scope attached.

Thanks Again!
