Air purifiers

Will these actually remove odors from the air, or just filter dust, germs, particles, etc, out of the smelly air...

I guess it depends on the odors. Any input for use on reducing odors caused by pets would be appreciated 😛 I have a few rats, and it doesnt smell too bad, but not smelling at all is better

Thanks

They will reduce odors to the extent the odors are caused by particulates. We had ran a hepa filter to take out the neighbor's fugitive cigarette smoke and it knocked down the stench considerably. You have to change the filters often.

With rats, the filters will take out the dander but not any ammonia smells.

I have had an ionic breeze for four years. It doesn't seem to do much more than take some dust out of the air. It releases supposedly the smell of ozone. Not sure what ozoe smells like though but the scent is something that you can smell. Anyway, as said above, they are a waste of money. HEPA is good but the filters that you have to replace after like 20 hours of use (at least on some of the models I have seen) cost like $30 each. That is insanely expensive.

Is there such thing as a fan that has a filter which you can clean?

I have always wanted one but I have never seen one. I don't care about the germs and anthrax or whatever people are afraid of these days, I just want to get something that removes air borne dust and can be cleaned for free so I never have to buy a filter.

One thing you can always do is change out your AC filter more frequently and buy higher quality filters this summer... They filter out a lot and definitely move a lot of air....the fliters are cheaper than the air cleaner filters and you don't even have to buy an air cleaner. I've also seen dehumidifiers that have filters you can put on them to help keep the dust down....
