Air powered Impact gun with > 1500 ft/lb needed. Anyone with suggestions?

I am trying to remove the axle nut from my vehicle. 1 11/16" nut.

I tried my impact rated at 400 ft/lb, nothing. Got out my 3/4" breaker bar, nothing. Used a 3' piece of tubing on it, and jumped on it, and suceeded in breaking the bar like it was nothing.

Got a new heavy duty breaker bar, and used a 20 ton jack on the breaker bar and succeeded in lifting that corner of the vehicle off the ground. So I pulled out all the stops and used a 10' piece of the tubing I am building my go-cart out of (1.50 x .095) I bent that. So I put a piece of .083 1.25 tubing inside of the 1.5". I bent that too.

I am putting something like 1500 ft/lbs on this bolt, and it is not budging. Even the red wrench has no effect. If I have too, I will cut the ah heck off. I would prefer to take it off though, so I am in need of a nice big impact gun. Gives me an excuse for a new tool too.

Wow, I didn't think that many people knew about that. Ya, I tried it. But it is not rust locked. I also let it sit overnight with penetrating oil. Tried heating the nut, heating the nut and flash cooling the stud, slege hammer blows. yada yada.

Damn... That's one stuck bolt.. :Q

I'm sure you've already soaked it in penetrant, heated it with a torch, etc?

Edit: lol......

Yeah a 1" wrench has a lot of breaking strength. You'll need 1/2" hose and fittings for best performance. 125 psi / 25CFM at the tool will probably be needed for it to develop the crunch you'll need. It will probably snap righ off though.

I hate to bring up the obvious but what are the specs of your air compressor? Is it enough to feed your impact gun and allow it to achieve rated power?

Yes, first thing I checked before I even started.

In order of asking, huge and yes. Even my small compressor will run it. Granted, my small compressor is still pretty damn big, and puts out 14 CFM @ 90 IIRC. If for some reason my large one can not, a friend of mine has a 40 hp compressor that puts out > 150 CFM, but it is stationary. I would have to bring my tools over there, but it is always an option. I am not worried about having air.

Ever consider the heat wrench?

Doh! Didn't read your post completely.

How about alternating between tightening and loosening on the gun to try to work it loose.
