Air Miles Travel Insurance is a scam

Before my trip to the Dominican Republic the person I booked with recommended I get the insurance just in case I needed to cancel the trip or if anything was lost, stolen or damaged.

They hand you a little 3 page booklet with lots of fine print and I read it all and it seemed reasonable enough... Except for the part where I missed reading the "full terms and conditions in a separate novel".

I need to make a claim because my bag was destroyed along with my iPod and a few other things by the airline.

I got the (literally) 50 page book today and looked over the requirements for making a claim about "lost, stolen or damaged" items.

THE ONLY way to be reimbursed (up to $300 max) is to have the item on you when it's stolen (IE, mugged), or to have the item on you when it's damaged in a fire.

I really wish I could understand how this is even legal.

blah blah blah "read the fine print idiot" blah blah blah...

Fine print should be illegal.

Hopefully I can buy a damaged iPod on ebay and replace the broken parts myself.

That's some BS, though--even though it is technically your fault. They should have given that to you when you purchased the insurance; file a lawsuit for them not providing the appropriate documentation for the contractual agreement.

It's like if I make you sign a contract that says "see page 10 for further information," but don't have a page 10.

Who would read 50 pages of fine print? Besides, am I just going to not get insurance from them? I can go to someone else and sign the exact same scam contract with a different logo on the top.

I don't have time or the money to file a lawsuit and hire a lawyer over getting a $200 iPod fixed.

I just bought a replacement screen off of ebay for $13. Hopefully it's all I need to replace.

Don't blame the insurance companies for the fine print they didn't use to have it. It's the lawyers that made it happen. Because people started making travel insurance pay for an auto claim or something the policy shouldn?t pay for. So now you have policies that are so convoluted with small print that they don't seem to do what they should do.

The insurance companies hire lawyers to write fine print so they don't have to pay out on anything they claim they will actually pay for.

The lawyer did what the insurance company asked them to do.

Therefore, I blame the insurance company and the lawyers and the top 5% of people who have enough money to make rules and laws and pay off anyone they need to keep themselvs at the top and everyone else below them.

Well I tried explaining it but you have to choose what you believe. Good luck with the claim.

What do you mean when you say the bag was "destroyed"? And why did you pack an expensive electronic device in checked luggage?
