yea well this is the Sh!t that happens..the M16 has been proven to jam and malfunction since the vietnam war...yet the buddy buddy relationship between the Colt and the Pentagon has kept it in there for over 30 years.

THere are stories of soldiers in Vietname taking the AK47s off dead Vietcong because they were so fed up with their M16s jamming and malfunctioning.

Unless airbus is or starts manufacturing in the US, which I don't believe it is, then most likely it would be best to stay with a domestic company such as Boeing. The civilian market is another matter, but it makes sense strategically and politically to buy/produce what you need for defense within your own boarders. But I do agree that this contract needed more review. Seems like politics as usual has carried the day yet again in another government contract. :|

no-bid contract=corruption/graft
$18 billion can buy a whole lot of congressmen and high level Airforce officers. I wonder if Boeing is gonna pull a Halliburton and put Marvin Sambur, the Air Force's acquisition chief, on their board after he retires from the AF? We should open up the bidding process to Airbus so that the price will fall helping our national security by making it more affordable.

Boeing is quite the SuX0r.

But in the America of Halliburton what can one expect?

I think they should pull a Halliburton and cater the Turkey dinner that the troops had when Bush went over there for the surprise visit. It was catered by Kellog, Brown and i forget the last one...a wholly owned subsidiary of Halliburton
