Air Force coach: Black 'kids can run very, very well'

Searched for black, air force, coach, run. So if it's a repost, bite me 😀

Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry, expressing frustration Tuesday with the Falcons' slumping performance, attributed the latest loss in part to No. 20 TCU's having more black players who "can run very, very well."

DeBerry, in his 22nd year at the Air Force Academy, first mentioned the academy's lack of minority players compared to other schools while talking to reporters Monday.

He said Air Force needed to recruit faster players. "We were looking at things, like you don't see many minority athletes in our program," DeBerry told The Gazette of Colorado Springs.

When questioned about the remarks during his weekly luncheon Tuesday, the coach didn't hesitate to elaborate.

"It just seems to be that way, that Afro-American kids can run very, very well. That doesn't mean that Caucasian kids and other descents can't run, but it's very obvious to me they run extremely well," DeBerry said in remarks first broadcast Tuesday night by KWGN-TV in Denver.

It's funny how ESPN already came out with an article accusing him of racism, but when you look at NFL WRs and RBs, who dominates?

I love how people jump on this guy like he is a crazed racist.

Certain stereotypes exist for a reason. It is 100% true that there are a larger percentage of black people who are more athletic than white people. Whether it is genetics, social or economical, it is true. You are allowed to use prejudice if it is obvious from observation.

Damn... get off the guy's back.

Sounds like the one from the Chapelle show : "Why do black people run so fast?", "Well, you gotta do something when the police show up" 😛

What about that movie "White man can't jump"

I like how Dave Berry won the NBA Slam Dunk competition the year after that came out. 😀

That is fine, but this is a slippery slope...

The coach isn't a racist, however he is insensitive and ignorant...

It is upsetting that racism is the first thing out of certain people's mouths. Last I checked the NBA is up to what 95% or greater?

I don't understand why people can't say 'in general, blacks are more athletic"

Sure, there are really fast and athletic whites but the stats don't lie!

NBA, NFL, MLB is a mix(lots of hispanics)
Hockey is 99% White or really lots of Canadiens and Europeans.

Oh teh no! Not insensitive! This is going to hurt the feelings of black people everywhere! Run away!

Would you be insulted if someone was saying out of some generality that you were faster/smarter/better at something?

That's not an insult in the least. Grow a pair.

So, if he had said, that through former policies either intended or unintended we have not had minorities playing for us and by precluding a certain race from competing we are missing out some very talented athletes. Would we still brand him as racist or insensitive?

Well, one is just a little wordier than what he said.
