Air filtration system question 2003 Honda Civic EX

I am extremely sensitive to allergies so I have a question on air circulating through the passenger area of the car. Is this the same air that passes through the air filter? If not where does the air come in from? I noticed some small vents located at the base of the windshield wipers. Is this it? Also anyone know if the Honda allergy pollen filters are HEPA rated and if not are these available for purchases? Thanks.

No.

The air filter filters air for your engine.

AFAIK, there is no filter for the air that comes into the ventilation system. It's just drawn from the outside.

OK thanks for the info. Do you know where the air comes in from exactly? In my owners manual it says there are 2 pollen and allergy filters located behind the glove box. I'm looking at changing these and looking for HEPA ones, not sure if the stock ones are rated.

interior air is usually pulled from the inside part of the windshied and/or the floor
exterior air is pulled from outside the windshield near your wipers

Ahhh.

If there are filters, I am sure you can get HEPA versions.

Hmm.. A HEPA engine air filter would be great. Problem is, it'd have to be huge to provide enough airflow.. plus it would cost an arm and a leg. lol
