air couriers?

anyone here know anything about them? pro's, con's?

as far as i know, you sign up for a courier company/service, and then you must pay (at a discounted rate) to fly to any random state/country to deliver a package. this can all happen at random times during the week, month, etc.

doesn't seem that great to me. am i missing anything?
 
You don't have any obligation to fly anywhere at anytime, it's just that if you are flying somewhere at a particular time, you can be their courier and save some on the airfare.

I met a guy on the plane once who was doing it, he had paid $500 for his roundtrip flight to Japan (my ticket was $700 for a non-refundable/non-changable), all he had to do was show up, sign some forms with the company, then a guy was supposed to meet him before customs to take over the luggage.
 
so instead of getting paid like a typical job, your paycheck is attained in the form of memories and experiences of wherever you go?

Unless you were looking at something completely different, I wouldn't call being an air courier a "job". It's more of a budget way to travel, you give up your luggage allowence so that the courier company can send their own items (they usually do it because it is cheaper than sending it fedex but faster than sending it as air cargo).
