Air conditioner isn't working at home (central air)...

Do they need to be "refilled" with Freon or something every so often? We've had this for about 8 years now and we abused it a little last summer and we go to turn it on last week and it's not blowing out very cold air. We're having my dad's friend who is an A/C repairman come to do something about it. Any ideas what it is?

AC units are closed systems and should never just leak, in a perfect world. I would guess there is a seal damaged or a line that is damaged. Get it thoroughly inspected.

i dont think you refill with Freon anymore.

I believe you still need to recharge it.

But more likely you have a problem with your coil. Have it checked out, but be warned if it is your coil it will cost 100s of dollars to replace.

My A/C stopped working today too. Nice time to stop in 90+ degree muggy FL weather :frown: But it seems to be partially working now.
