Air conditioner hazards?

Hello there guys,

Electro-mechanics is not my expertise but i know the basics. What i need is an advice.

Mi company installed an air conditioner right next to my desk. It's a split system. The internal part is one meter and a half above my head. But i have no trouble with it cause it blows horizontally. But the external system (where the compressor and fan are placed) is just 50 centimeters (about 20") away from me on the other side of the window. It's 3,5 kilowatt.

My question is will it affect me in any way (except for the noise which i don't hear at all) or my computer and lots of small electronics near by? What about the magnetic field the compressor generates? Is it having some detrimental or health hazard effect on me at that distance?

i would think you should be fine. the only thing i would worry about is mold from sitting water (condensation, leaks)

Quick answer, No.

Most commonly-noted effects on people of AC systems is feeling chilled from operating too cool or from direct drafts, which you already know is not your situation, and possibly dry air as the unit dehumidifies the room, which depends heavily on whether you are in a dry or high-humidity area. For the compressor unit the potential concern is sound noise, and you already know that is not a problem, either. The electromagnetic "noise" from the compressor motor is very low because of the motor's case itself as well as the shielding by the outer chassis of the compressor module. Its impact on small electronic devices in the vicinity should be extremely (as in, can't detect) small. Worst case impact on the electrical system is the possibility of short-term voltage sags in the supply system for a couple of seconds each time the compressor motor starts up. These systems are designed to minimize this impact also, as long as the building's electrical system is sized properly.

Yes the electrical system would be my only concern. If its not quite adiquate enough there will be a dimming of power each time the compressor kicks in. This could adversly effect your PC if its not on a surge or UPS. If you do nitice a power flux when the compressor kicks in then you will want the system on a UPS for sure.

Schmide, i have no idea what are you talking about lol. You are either screwing with me or just supposing i am someone you know?

The electric system i just fine cause the air conditioner is supplied by another power line and is not interfering with the rest of the office power supply.
