Air compressors. Should I buy a new or used?

I'm looking for something along the lines for a 30-60 gallon belt drive, oil lube compressor.

I found a used one, it's a Sanborn 3hp 30 gallon compressor for 200$ used. I'm not sure of the year of the compressor but it is definitely older then 1994 since Colman bought out Sanborn in '94.

Is a used compressor a good purchase?

I have one older then that and it works fine, but I guess it would depend on how much it was used.

What is your application? Is it critical or is it for occasional use? What about the previous owner? How much cheaper is the used one?

Too many variables for anyone to give you any kind of answer.

I've decided to go with a new one. Probably a 60gallon 6hp portacable compressor.

Personally I wouldn't buy a Harbor Freight compressor. I'd stick with a name brand, due to reliability issues. I mean dishing out 500 for a compressor and saving some money and having it crap out on you. *shrugs*
