Air abrasions. Dental scam?

I got air abrasion done on two teeth today to "prevent further decay". Anyone else ever have these done? They use this sandblaster thing to smooth out fissures and stuff and fill w/a UV resin.

Do you think this is just a moneymaking deal for the dentist? The thing that makes me wonder is that insurance doesn't cover it and they're $175 a pop. Apparently Aetna would prefer that you have cavities, because they pay for fillings. But if this is a legitimate preventative measure why wouldn't they cover it, since it's cheaper than drilling & filling?

I think it's legit. My sister takes care of her teeth like crazy but she still gets cavities sometimes because she has very deep grooves in her molars.
