I'm trying to identify a good all-in-one wireless printer/scanner unit that has an automatic document feeder (ADF), can print/copy/scan auto-duplex (2-sided) and is color inkjet for occasional photo prints but also will more importantly have crisp, sharp text quality.

There seem to be a few units out there worth considering (such as the Epson Artisan 835, Canon MX870, HP Premium All-In-One, Lexmark Pinnacle 901) but all of them utilize the inferior CIS scanner mechanisms. I'm use to the superior CCD scan units and really wish manufacturers utilized them in their AIO units.

Have CIS scanning units become that good that CCD has fallen to the wayside?

Am I being too nit-picky here?

Well, I for one have had good success with the Canon line, but I don't think they auto-duplex. I have come to detest HP's offerings, mainly because of the bloatware. FWIW.

Get ye on ebay and get a used Canon MX760. Or just cut to the chase, and get just a high quality scanner. To some extent, you can buy some of those all say long for $10.00 or $30.00 at your local good will store.

The typical scanner that comes in an all in one will not do high DPI stuff. As for me, I do not need high DPI stuff and only a few do.

But a non chipped Canon inkjet, priceless.

We can't answer whether or not you're being too nit-picky because we don't know what you're using the scanner for. ;) I've used various Canon MFPs, and they've all been great.
