AIM using a Dlink DI-704 router

Dedpuhl

Lifer
I want to send files through AIM. How do I get past the firewall on the router? I know the port number used by AIM (default 5190). That's about all I know, however. 🙁

Anyone have this router? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the DI-704. I don't think it has a built-in firewall. I have used the file transfer app from AIM many times with the Router installed.

it isn't because of my firewall, it is because we're both behind firewalls, I can file transfer w/ other people....

and there is a firewall in the DI-704, read the man if you don't believe...

any help?

Definate FIrewall..also VIrtual server in a DMZ capability.Anyway..Log in.Click on advanced....then access control. You have three groups where you can add machines by IP.Then you can either allow or block ports as you wish.Make sure you shut the common known holes!

I am looking to purchase a router, any preference for the DL-704 as compared to the DL-704P ............. ?

Do I need the printer sharing function .............. if several pc's are networked, can't I just send the file to the pc that's hooked to the printer and print from there ......... are there other advantages to the DL-704P?

Are these routers equal otherwise, or am I giving up features to gain the printer sharing?

Thank's for the info................

Only difference is the print sharing, otherwise identical...

you question as to wether or not you need print sharing . . . . well, it is nice to not have to send the file.... but it is also more $$$ so if you don't mind the little x-tra $ for that then I would go with it...
