For those AIM users, has anyone noticed the file transfer speed?? I'm on a 56k and i was getting an average of 15k/s from my bro who is also at the same speed. Thats a pretty big jump from the averge 5k/s. Is this working for everyone else? How fast on ICQ??/

I was getting 9KB/s from Crumcake earlier and he's on a 28.8, doesn't seem right... I do know that is was reporting accurately though, cause I got a 2mb file in like 3 mins.

I BS u not. I pulled a 2.3 meg file in about two and half minutes...anyone wanna try??? send me something on AIM:

Physical limit is 7kBps. On a perfect connection (non-existent).

edit: learned to divide 56 by 8 to yeild 7, not 8. 🙂

Ok, so maybe the pic was just for poking fun. It seems he IS pretty fast. 2270KB in 3 min 9 seconds...

That's 12.01KB/s:Q

Maybe AOL has devised a new compression technique🙂. Oh well, most likely just a woooooo...

It's a very expensive program called PrntScrn. It's on the top of your keyboard between F12 and scroll lock. It copies your desktop into the clipboard, where you can paste it wherever you might choose. Very useful.

🙂

Bitmaps are insanely compressable (see example below). I'm sure AOL IM does some on-the-fly compression, so this isn't suprising. Now, do this with, say, the Q3A Demo, and you'll get the normal transfer rates.

disturbing.bmp was a screenshot of the driver install process for my ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon (640x480x16 colors). Blah.bmp was just a screenshot of my desktop at 1280x1024x32bpp.

No, I've noticed it too. Last week, I sent a friend of mine a movie (it was, um, educational content) over the university inet on AIM. It was going at 900k/sec consistantly...the 220 mb file transfered in less then 10 minutes
