AIM Tmp File?

I have a particular user that has a re-occuring problem. They swear that they are not doing anything but under the directory c:\windows\aim\username\urlcache they are getting these .tmp files. Normally named aim****.tmp. The **** seems to be a random hex number. These files can range from a few k to as much as 4 Gig! What the heck is going on here. A google search and searching around on aol's site came up with nothing.

Anyone know?

BTW, the AIM version is 4.8.2540 I think that is the most recent release.

never heard of this. Is it a possible bug with the Beta version 2.8? Try 2.7 & see if the error goes away. The other posibility is that he's being hacked by someone (there is a serious security flaw in AIM that was recently discovered).

Ok, doing a revised google search on urlcache and aim comes up a little more info. It seems it logs ticker and other advertisement info. Also there is a couple links to exploit that hole. Just weird that I never had it happen to my machine.

Any other ideas?

I'm not sure, I have about 20 or so and the total of them all is under 100KB. I just deleted a bunch of them the other day, but I've never had a problem with big sizes. Why don't you try turning off all the extra features of AIM (stock market updates, all that).

Maybe try that modded-AIM that disables advertisements (DeadAIM).
