AIM Support?

Train

Lifer
I'd like to see the optin of a link for AIM users in the profile.

Or some way to get an "aim:" link in siginitures or posts, notice i tried to do this in my sig, but the forum put "http://" in front of it so it wont work.

Is this a possibility?

edit: it also puts a / after the goim

It's not quite that easy, AOL does not offer a simple interfacing method with their system like ICQ, so until that happens AIM integration can not happen.

the link i have in my signature works if you have AIM 2.0 or higher installed, just plug in the Screen Name, its a simple little link

(the link will work if the "http://" is removed)

Yes, the link works fine without the http:// in front of it. I agree that adding support in this manner for AIM would be a great idea, as I use AIM a lot more often than I use ICQ.

Edit: I have AIM 4.3.2188

I'm using the latest version of AIM: 4.3.2188 and that hyperlink without the http:// in front of it gives me the error message that I have clicked on an AIM handler that my client does not support and that I may need to upgrade...

Ladi, it has always worked for me, besides, 4.3 is the new beta, i wouldnt trust it yet, AOL doesnt even support it yet

I got about 14 messages last night from people trying it out, looked good to me.

I contacted Ladi to see why hers wasnt working, turns out you need to target=new for it to work, which the forum does for links automatically.

the link should look like this:
<a target=new href=&quot;aim:goim?screenname=YpsiNeil&quot;>Contact me on AIM</a>

i have now tested it on all versions 2.0 thru 4.3.2188 ON Win 98, NT 4, and Win2k, all work great with the above link (exactly, just cahnge screenname) and it works fine.

AOL IM Remote

Hmm.... AOL's own webpage has the solution to just what was requested.... AIM Remote, which lets people add a link to their homepage that allows people to send them IMs through AIM. Works with version 2.0 and higher. Wonder how complicated it would be on the FuseTalk side of things to implement support for that...

JW

AIM remote is way to complex, the easiest is to just use the link i posted above and plug in each persons AIM screen name.

AIM remote is not all that complex.... all it really does is takes away the complexity of coming up with the code for creating links to send IMs from webpages. At least that's what it did from my experiences with it. It just creates the links with the fancy graphcs, etc. for the links. Just use the link code from AIM Remote and it's all set.

Just my thoughts on this.
