AIM quirk...

I have a D-Link 4 port router.... b/c of this I can't direct connect on AIM. ANyone know h ow to resolve this? I know from nothing about opening port and how to workk the firmware and stuff like that.

AIM works on port 5190 by default I think...

what's the model of router you have?

this is the default ip for the web config program for the DI-704...not sure if other dlinks use the same :

http://192.168.0.1

Log in as administrator, default password is "admin"

click advanced, then virtual server, then enter your ip and the port 5190, and check enable...

thanx for the tip.. I've got the DI-804.. do you think it makes a difference for the port number or other when it comes to the instructions you left before?

the access ip 192.168.0.1 is the same...the username is admin and the password is just blank

but I don't see anything about opening one port in the manual:

aha! you might need to upgrade your firmware to the latest version which will allow individual ports to be opened.

To find out YOUR COMPTUER's IP address, type "winipcfg" minus the quotes in the Run menu (under Win9x). Win2k or XP, do Run, Command, then type in "ipconfig". that'll tell you your IP address. The Default Gateway it lists will probably be the router's LAN address.
To find out what the IP of your MODEM is, if you'd need that, then you'd need to use the management utility from the Dlink website or from your Install CD. It should be under like Global Port or something like that.
