sorry if repost...searched for "realphx" and AIM

hey-

I've seen a few friends' profiles change today from their usual to the same large font "WWW.REALPHX.COM"...does anyone know what's going on with this? I have yet to talk to these friends, but after checking out the site (advertising), it doesn't make sense to me that they would wipe out their profiles to link to it.

alright, well, the site changed just recently...apparently there was some kind of adware they were running.

here's the instructions on how to fix it if anyone has this problem (from the site):

Instructions on how to fix your computer and remove our ads:

1) Change your Internet Explorer or Netscape start page to something other than realphx.com.

2) Close all Internet Explorers or Netscapes you Have open.

3) Press ctrl +alt +del and then select each mshta.exe and av.exe that is running, and close each one.

4) Finally, to remove our adware, you must delete the files av.exe and mshta.exe on your computer.

5) Now change back your AIM profile to whatever you want, and restart your machine.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.

Yes, they work great. Fixed 5 of them today at work, but we have to figure it all out ourselves. Fun.

They work. By the way does anyone know how to get rid of something similar which keeps resetting the homepage to www.searchv.com? Obviously don't go to that address. Spybot doesn't come up with anything.

Umm, is there any general instructions for removing searchv from multiple machines? All the post I'm seeing so far involves having to post the log file to the forum and having someone help point out which entries should be removed.
