AIM, used to use icq.. still like it if it weren't for all the bloat. the main thing would be the history list, and the ability to send messages when the user is offline.. nice touches.

Quite frankly, I don't care. They all are the same animal. I don't prefer one to another. But like most people, I want to chat with my friends online. It's incredibly frustrating when 3 different friends use 3 different chat clients.

Lately it seems that most people I chat with use AIM so that's what I'm using now. But I'm alienating several RL friends that use MSN Messenger or ICQ.

ICQ

tried some beastie that did all the chat clients (wasn't Trillian). But it wouldn't let me be invisible. So back to ICQ I went. But I clarify- ICQ 99a. Thought it was bad enough going from 98a to 99a. But now, this 2000 crapola. Pure schlock. Wouldn't touch it w/ a 10-ft. pole. Installed it on my laptop to try it out. Mistake. Yuk yuk and more YUK.

Might have to try AIM. Tried MSN for about 3 seconds and uninstalled it. Yahoo is installed, but I really don't care for it.

hahaa, i remember powwow!

ewwww.. trillian takes up quite a bit of memory (ok, well, i suppose it makes sense.. running all those chat proggies in one..)

but it loses out on all the fun profiles and away messages :(

I use MSN, mainly because it's significantly faster than ICQ, and because that's what most all of my friends use (except 1, who never is online anyway). Hey, MSN starts up in less than a second when Windows boots, while ICQ takes over 1 minute to load (at least when I tried it on a system with 64 MB of RAM...maybe if I put 1 GB of RAM in it would load a little faster :).

Edit to add P.S.: Another reason I like MSN is because it has a typing indicator, which lets you see when the other person starts to type a message.

I really don't get a chance to decide what to use, I use whatever everyone else is using.. and that's AIM. 95% of people I know wouldn't even know what an ICQ is, and I wanna be able to chat with all my fine ladies..

ICQ 0wnz AIM, just not in America. I do agree that AIM is better for chats but you can always use ICQ chat, and when I go "online" in AIM I can't get anything productive done cause it requires full attention to have talks.

I have 320 online/real life friends, family, biz people, on ICQ, about 35 friends on AIM from when I lived in Jersey, and 7 cousins on MSN.
