It's not exactly comparing the same two things, but it's similar enough. 'Far as I know, atrac is smaller. But like VQF, I think it takes more "umph" to decompress it.

ATRAC basically takes away the frequencies that humans can't hear from the song resulting in smaller space.
A typical MD disk is only 140mb.
