AIM Client 5.2 and 5.9

my moms aim locks up as stated above.. i reinstalled.. nothing, i uninstalled and reinstalled the new 5.9 version and same result... anyone had this experience? itll say not responding, wait a while and come back... its like only periodically it sends/recieves and then 60sec, itll refresh

any ideas?
