Ok, so I put up an away message that I didn't have any problem with but somehow someone has my screenname without my "approval" so they can see me but I can't see them. So when they read the away message they got kinda pissed off and my ears are still ringing from the royal ass-chewing that i got. Is there anything out there that can tell me whos buddy list that i'm on. This really pissed me off and could really screw up a big event for me.

WTF are you talking about. When they leave you a message, their screen name appears on your screen. YOu have their screen name unless you closed that box and forgot it.

What was the away message, and who cares if you don't even know who is pissed off at you?

I don't get it, you got a royal ass-chewing but don't know from who?

The ass-chewing came from a coach. I row for my high school and it is a co-ed team. I voiced my opinion over a decision that the coaches had made and my coach read the message and is now contemplating not letting me row at Nationals. According to her, the girls head coach and the girls captain read the away message as well, but I don't have them listed on my buddy list. How can this happen? Anyone?

someone can have you on their list without ever messaging you or asking for permission, so in that case you would never know that you're there. You could set the privacy option ofw

Who can contact me ===> Allow only users on my Buddy List

but I'm not sure if that would stop people not on your list from reading your profile/away message.

Anyone can see your away message/profile unless you specifically configure your client to not allow this.

Depending on what you said and how you worded, a call from the parents usually quells power-tripping "educators." They really have no business punishing you academically for things you said outside the academic environment.

Talk to the coaches first, if they're unwilling to change, call your local news station. I'm sure they'd eat this up.

The coach isn't doing anything academically, just athletically. Ok, note to self, use like 30 passwords.

Hey, here's an idea...

next time you want to exercise your mouth, why not do it sitting down in front of the coach. Surprisingly, they might be more receptive to a comment from the horse's mouth, then something passed along on an IM client Away message, like some coward who hides behind caller id...

if nothing else, the chair will give your ass a shield...

Yea, AIM sucks. MSN tells you who has added you to their buddy list. Too bad more people don't use MSN.

lol way to rage against the machine there with an away message instead of voicing your concern to their faces.

now you just look like a whiny bitch which is how they're going to treat you.

I used to row port side in a Dirigo 4 when I was in college. Getting up at 4AM and rowing on a still foggy river right at sunrise. Great times.

Academic meaning something related to the school despite you using non-academic means to express your opinion.

Semantics aside, there's a lot of "outs" available to you, but ATOT isn't going to be able to help you out a whole lot.

Lesson learned: don't post on the internet anything you would not want your mother, wife, or boss to read.

How can this be done? I think you mean only users who are on your list can send a message. Anybody can add you to their list and see your profile. regardless of your privacy settings.

that works.
keep others from seeing you.
like blocking everyone but the people you want.
