AIM beta 4.7

What a load of crap. You cant even turn the sounds off, well, not all of them. Somebody please say there is a way to turn off ALL of the sounds. The new options menu was cleaned up some.

I hate the AIM betas; they're slightly buggy with the formatting at times, and they don't close when you hit the close button, they just minimize. I just think they're packing on the bloat to an already bloated messaging client. Pretty soon, they'll just merge ICQ2000 and AIM into something stupid like SuperBloatedMessenger.

ya, aim beta pisses me off. When I press close it doesnt close. I dont feel like switching back either. Dont they have something thats like ICQ2000 and AIM. It probably is superbloated with features no one every uses.

wannhhhh wannnhhhh bitch bitch...

no one makes you upgrade...and its called beta for a reason...

Don't you have a mute button?? or bc aim doesnt pop a hand out and press it for you i gues i see your point of being upset.

bigbootydaddy: no sh!t its a beta for a reason. When they have 3 sounds that you can turn on and off (signing on, signing off and telephone) it gets rather annoying. BTW, do you know what sarcasm is? I think your reply was more of a waste of space and brain power than mine.

mamapajama: that would make me mute my mp3s.

My message was asking if anyone had a trick to turn them off.

you can turn off the sounds just like regular ol' aim, just have to hunt for it a little....

IM/Buddy Chat, sound buttons.

The only other couple problems i see is the Aim Today.. the put it where you usually click to put up away messages... that's no good 🙁 Also, dragging files over for transfer... now it's whatever name you let go on, not the highlighted one (this can be good, or bad.. just need to get used to... actually, that goes the same for both issues)

and i don't know about the "close but minimize" issue, i don't have any problems w/ anything at all. The main window does go to the taskbar now instead of closing, but that's a "feature"... i haven't bothered to see if theres a way to change it back or not tho.

heh, one addition, i do have a problem w/ the taskbar icon blinking... it sometimes blinks after i've checked.. this has been a problem w/ aim, not just beta's, for me.

Freaking programmers thought it would be fun putting the damn sounds in different places. What's wrong with just having a sound tab?

Anyway, you'll find the sound options under:
Buddy List, two under IM/Buddy Chat, and one under Talk. Just click on the sound tab under those menus.

if it is that big of a deal, then set the sounds to a wav that you record that is silent...

there brain power for you...AIM betas have always been buggy. sarcasm? no never heard of it. how do you imply it? do you think i will do a good job?

Yeah, it sucks! Period! Does someone have a link to download the old 4.3 version? Or is it still on there website? Thanks.

i'm using aim 4.7 and i haven't found problems turning off the sound. to get it to minimize it to the system tray only, you close it. yeah aol logic. close from the task bar or the window itself and not the system try and it minimizes to the tray.

I love AIM betas. With every new one I have the inkling of hope that they've gotten rid of the Warning system... but no, i keep getting let down. If anything sucks about AIM, it's the warnings. I know what they're meant to be used for, i.e., to tell someone to stop being a moron, but they just warn you back... really stupid. they don't work, and they're annoying. if you don't want someone to talk to you, just block them!

trillian IMO is still not very usable.. i'd rather have aim and irc open. The whole profiles thing in aim is also lost 😛 It has potential, i'll prolly try it again after it's improved some.

haven't heard of the others tho... maybe i'll look into them. But i mainly use aim anyway, so it doesn't matter too much 🙂

I tried ODIGO a while back, didn't have as many functions as AIM and still seemed a little bloated...

Perhaps they changed, but ODIGO wasn't a very good alternative...

Haha...

i feel dumb and blind. i saw the sounds option for the chatroom, but completely missed the options for a single window..hehe.

I turned of AOL today. Not too many new features... I wish they had logging and scripting. Run purgative and you don't have to look at their ads.

I tried Odigo. I IMed myself on AIM with it and it was VERY laggy. That might be because of AOL's poor oscar support.

The new Gaim is pretty nice too.
